Free/Low Cost Motion Graphics Software
Now this one used to be a hard one to replace. Adobe After Effects seriously corned the design market back in the day in regards to motion graphics and compositing software. The software would mostly be used to digitally enhance movies shows and animations in order to add any last details or motion graphics that needed to be added (or rather that you want to add). As with most software, with time comes alternatives. Here are some open source and low cost motion graphics software!
Natron
Natron is an open source cross platform compositing software. It is built around other open source softwares such as OpenFX, OpenEXR, OpenColorIO and OpenImageIO. It also supports many different Open Source plug-ins which allows Natron to read more file sources, add extra nodes and add extra node functions. Users are able to do everything from multi thread rendering to 2D tracking, animation and much more. Natron is available for Mac, Linux and windows allowing for cross platform work.
BlackMagic Design: Fusion 8
Fusion 8 is a freemium software that packs a powerful punch. It can do many of the things that both Adobe After Effects and Natron can do. I would go in depth on its functions, however, I did recently write a complete review on the software which you may read here! It is available for Mac, Windows and Linux! The upgraded paid for version unlocks certain features and is available for $99.
Motion 5
Motion 5 is Apples answer to Adobe After Effects. Much like After Effects, Motion 5 not only specializes in compositing and motion graphics, but in 3D text effects as well. Clearly it is only available for Mac but is available at a very affordable $49.99.
Have your own favorite? Put it in the comments! Happy designing!
